MARGARET SULLIVAN, FIBER ART DESERT DESIGNS

Margaret, formerly of The Pinery, Parker, Colorado, now resides in Rio Verde, Arizona, where she planned to retire and play tennis, golf and travel. Fortunately, she discovered gourds and this saved her from a life of leisure. She also works in fiber and her tapestry creations are well known in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area.

She participates in approximately six to seven shows a year in addition to teaching her art in Rio Verde and Cave Creek, Arizona. Margaret’s classes are held in Rio Verde during November and December and then she partners with gourd artist Jane Boggs to teach in Cave Creek in February, March and April. She will be participating in the Pine Arts and Crafts Guild show Saturday and Sunday September 4th and 5th and the Fountain Hills Festival of Arts and Crafts Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 12th, 13th and 14th. She also shows by appointment from her home gallery. A web site will be developed later this fall.

Margaret is a self-taught artist and uses pyroengraving, air tool carving and works with leather dyes and acrylic paints and is inspired by the Indians of the Southwest. Masks and Kachinis are among her favorite projects and spends most of her profits from sales with the “Feather Ladies from Montana.” Her art has traveled as far away as Tibet.

Margaret is a member of the Rio Verde Art League, the Southwest Gourd Association and the American Gourd Association. She still finds time to play a little tennis and golf and travels extensively in the quest of her art.
